Long-distance Breakup

The cotton python twists,
stealing my sleep
as venom
poisons the night.

A wasteland
stretches out, unending,
behind time’s neon eyes;
and infernal.

Cat o’ nine tails
whips words
into blood,
flaying reason
from thought.

Your strained voice
writhes on digital wings,
closes the door
with a final sigh.
Interference lies thick
between city and shore.
In the space
of a flagfall, my tongue
loses we, relearns I.

  1. There are some things that those who have not done long distance, will never understand.. especially the tugging of heartstrings, and the non-unison developing of feelings.. loved those last two lines!
