Dusk – a Musette

Dusk

Twilight
sheds her mantle
for night –

they come
together, meld,
succumb;

in eyes
deeper than time
she dies.

      • I think the word “delicate” is perfect for this type of writing. This one is such an extremely moving piece. It’s truly beautiful, Ryan. I’ve been reminiscing lately…. Your pieces always make me teary eyed. Ryan, You definitely are the real deal writer. ❀️
You know exactly how to make the reader feel your words.

      • Every time I read your feedback I think that it couldn’t possibly get any better or make my day any brighter…and then you go one step better again. I truly can’t thank you enough for your support, Carissa. Putting myself out there for people to dissect can be daunting at times, but your encouragement and praise makes it all worthwhile. Thank you πŸ™‚

      • Ryan… I think the same about your pieces. I think they can’t get any better but then you go and outshine yourself. πŸ˜‰
You over achiever! I understand the venerability you display with your pieces. I admire you for trying new techniques you’re not use too. It never shows you’re not a pro at them. A few days ago I accidentally published a post. I wrote it 3 months ago in my drafts and it was full of unfinished paragraphs and grammar errors. I will write letters about my boys and difficult times we endured. I never read them after I write them. I believe it’s one thing to write something but to read it is another. I will burn them or shred them. I suppose it’s a way to cleanse my soul. So, when I published it instead of deleting. Realizing it went to everyone’s email. I quickly deleted it. I felt so sick.. I felt a gut punch. I stayed off WP that day. I saw emails but wouldn’t open them… I finally started opening them. People were leaving comments on my other pieces asking where the post went. Many told me
It was the best thing I’ve written. I was beyond grateful for their kindness. I feel letting people read our words is so intimate. It’s so personal… It’s like looking into our soul. Ummmmm, Ryan… Sorry for the novel. Back to you… Please show us your soul β€οΈπŸ˜‰

  1. Ohh..Your wonderfully chosen and arranged words, you softly touched me and immediately transported me me to a place I often go and, thus, so deeply relate to this delightful description.
Love your artistry painted here Ryan!
No need for dessert tonight πŸ˜‰ I am full of sweetness!

  2. This is absolutely flawless, Ryan! Your personification of twilight and night and their subsequent melding capture dusk in such a sensual way that the reader wants to watch this meeting occur, over and over. And, what an image you have captured with both words and lens. I’ve read a hundred poems this morning and this is sits at the top of my favourites list! Exemplary!!

    • Wow! High praise, thank you. I’m flattered. I think the musette form is beautiful. I was so happy with that photo – no filter or anything, that’s exactly as I captured it on my iPhone 6s. Big smile now, thanks Thomas πŸ™‚

    • Thank you for the lovely feedback!
It’s only a new form for me, too, but I fell in love with it immediately.
Here is the structure as I am aware of it:

      Musette

      three verses
      first line – 2 syllables
      second line – 4 syllables
      third line – 2 syllables
      rhyme scheme – a/b/a c/d/c e/f/e
      title reflects poems content

      • I can see why you fell in love with it. The short form really pushes you to pick your words carefully so that they portray a strong message. At least that’s what I think.
Hahaha. Last night I couldn’t fall asleep because I was going over the 2/4/2 form in my head and playing around with different words. Hmmmmm. I had to make myself stop and just start repeating ‘sleep, sleep, sleep…’ over and over again in my head. Hahaha. I think I’ll post one soon.
Thanks for the info and have a great day.
