Paterfamilias

He died
but I never
went to his funeral.
If I didn’t have sons
of my own
I’d have gone.
But I do, so I know
that no force on earth
could ever make me
discard them.

I’m sorry if it was you who lost your father even if he wasn’t a good father, he was your father and I love that you have a great relationship with your sons and would never be that kind of father to them. Your reaction (or the speakers) is very understandable. Improving upon a broken relationship that hurt you deeply. Good to read your Poems.
